Hello everyone. I would like to share with you my experience teaching private lessons. Today I will be introducing my student Mr. S.
1. Student’s Name: Mr. S
2. Gender: Male
3. Type of company and work roles: Water and environmental engineer
4. Objectives of learning English: To improve his speaking skills
5. What successes does this student achieve?
At first, like most other students, Mr. Suenga had difficulties in his comprehension and speaking skills. This is completely understandable, listening to an audio recording can be very different from speaking with a real English speaking native. It can take time for new students to get accustomed to the speed, phrasing, and even pronunciation of words. However, with time Mr. S has been able to overcome such difficulties, here is what he had to say “Through the lessons, I could really see what I was lacking. At first, I couldn't listen and comprehend what the instructor was saying. I think that was largely because I was not used to the liaison.
By practicing listening with liaison in mind, I gradually began to be able to understand.
I also learned the importance of tenses in English when I was corrected about them during the lesson.
Little by little, I feel that my English is improving.”
6. How was the success obtained?
Apart from communication practice, we always aim to learn at least one new word every lesson and practice how to use it. Then after the lesson is nearly over we will once again review the new words we learned for that day.
7. What specific teaching methods lead to this success?
Through our lessons we practice English output on a regular basis. As an instructor I understand how important it is for students to not only learn new words or phrases but to feel comfortable in expressing their thoughts and feelings. That is why we will discuss a myriad of different topics. From the controversies involving self driving cars to how football player Lionel Messi left Barcelona, no topic is off the table. When learning any new skill the most important aspect is to enjoy the thing you are doing. By “switching it up” our lessons always remain interesting and fun.
8. What other advantages can students take away from Stellar private lessons?
I highly recommend Stellar private lessons to anyone. I think they are the best way to get the most out of your money. One on one sessions allow the instructor to get to work with you personally without any distractions or interruptions. They are able to pay closer attention to your strengths and weaknesses so that they can help you improve upon those weaknesses and re-enforce your strengths. There is also a greater flexibility with private lessons, as busy people sometimes work can get in the way. In such situations you can simply contact your instructor and reschedule at a more convenient time as opposed to group lessons.
