Ken: Hey, today's topic is about "Do you do anything eco-friendly?". Do you?
ケン:「今日のテーマ、環境に良いことしてる？って事なんだけど、何かやってる？」

Yoko: Well, it's a tough question. Does saving resources count? Speaking of being economical with resources, I use refills for things like detergent. Or I also separate the garbage from recycle garbage, plastic bottles, bins and cans. These are common practices, though. And my parents drive AQUOS, it is a hybrid vehicle, isn't it?
ヨウコ:「そうねぇ、いざ聞かれると困ってしまうわね。資源を無駄にしない という感じでも良いのかしら。資源を無駄にしない だと、「洗剤は詰め替え用を使っている」とか、「資源ごみとペットボトル、ビン、缶を分別してゴミ出ししている」 とか庶民的な事しか思いつかないわ。あとは実家の車がAQUOSなのだけど、あれはハイブリッドカーよね。」

Ken: Wow, a hybrid vehicle is wonderful. I am wondering if we will be driving electric cars in the not too distant future. Certainly, when I am asked such a question, I can't think of anything easily. Recently, I often read electronic books with Kindle. I think that not buying paper books and printing photos might reduce consumption of resources. I don't read a printed newspapers any more. Of course Somtimes I miss the chances to read the paper versions but e-books should be good for the environment.
ケン:「おー！ハイブリッドカー、すごいね。そのうち電気自動車も当たり前になるのかなー。確かにいざ聞かれると思いつかないね。最近kindleを買って電子書籍を読む事が多いんだけど、紙の本を買っていない 写真をプリントしていない という事も資源の消費を抑えてる事になるのかもね。印刷された新聞とかも読まなくなったし。手に取る紙が減るっていうのは寂しい気もするけど、環境には良いのかもしれないね。」

Misa: Do you know "An Inconvenient Truth", a documentary film about former United States Vice President Al Gore's campaign to educate citizens about global warming? It made me think about environment seriously. I want to be a "Green Consumer". A green consumer is a person who is mindful of environment. In order to study English, I often listen to various English speeches. Have you ever watched a speech made by a 12-year-old girl called Severn Suzuki? She is Canadian.
ミサ:「私もアルゴア元副大統領の「不都合な真実」という映画を見て、ほんと 環境の事考えなきゃいけないんだな って感じました。
環境に配慮した消費を行う人の事を Green Consumer と言うらしいんですけど、私もそうなりたいです。英語の勉強でいろいろなスピーチを見るのですが、地球環境サミットでの12歳の子供のスピーチ見た事あります？ セヴァン スズキさんってカナダ人の方なんですけど。」

Ken: I've never heard of it. Is it worth watching?
ケン:「知らないなー。それ良いの？」

Misa: Yes, it is. A 12-year-old girl, Severn Suzuki, saved her money and participated in the summit held in Brazil. She went there from Canada. Her speech is really moving. I cannot explain the details of her speech, but you can type "Severn Suzuki"on YouTube and find it there.
ミサ:「はい。12歳の子が自分でお金を貯めて、ブラジルで行なわれているサミットにカナダから参加をしてスピーチをしていて、とっても心動かされるんです。私、内容まではうまく説明できなくって。YouTubeで「セヴァン スズキ 」って入れたらスピーチが出てくると思うので見てみてください♪＾＾」
