But my favourite part of Billabong is the native bird life, there are hundreds of birds like ducks and the sulphur crested cockatoo.
I personally believe some of the best beaches are in North Queensland, just a little away from Townsville is a very, very small village called Mission Beach. The beach is PERFECT. During the spring time the beach would have a warm breeze blowing from the rainforests that ends only meters from the water and the ocean would be refreshing and cool on your skin. Waking up in a beach front hotel room is by far one of the best experiences I have had. Just meters from the sand there are some really incredible restaurants and bars to visit for excellent food and drink, and there are often fire dancing and parties held on sand at night. The rainforests have animals that all wander the beaches as well, it is one of the last places to see the Great Northern Cassowary. The great northern cassowary is probably my favourite animal in the world. They are a large bird who can’t fly with bright blue necks and very colourful features around their head. While they are normally very, very shy they can be very, very aggressive. They have a large talon on their foot that can seriously hurt people when attacked. I once saw a Cassowary kick a car door break it off, while I really like them, I am also terrified of them.

A short drive off only four hours north is a very small farming town called El Arish, they grow large amounts of sugarcane and banana with beautiful green farmland stretching for miles into the hill regions that surround the town. There are beautiful rainforests that that grow on each hill and between the different farms, you could drive for hours between the fields and the rainforest on winding roads. Sadly, every few years powerful cyclones normally destroy much of the farmland and rainforest in the area but like all of Australia it is very hardy and will always grow back. A wonderful surprise that can be found hidden away in one of the many forests is a Spanish castle called Paronella Park. The castle was made in 1916 and the original owner and builder helped plant more than seven thousand trees in the area to help sustain the wildlife. Exploring the castle and rain forest in the area was one of the most relaxing and inspiring things I have done. Walking through the different styles of gardens is I have always loved nature, being from such a wild and untamed country like Australia we love and cherish our wild life an incredible amount. The experience of seeing such an extravagant building with so many different animals and plants I feel this is what Australia is about.

This has been a small insight into where I grew up and the culture of north Queensland. We really do prefer to relax and to enjoy life as much as possible. As a people we love to talk to people and learn about different cultures, working at PCE is excellent opportunity for someone like me. A job where I can meet and talk to people about their lives and interests? What more could I ask for? The students are always very kind and often teach me new things about Japan or even their own job. Every day is always an opportunity to learn something new. I also have regular groups where we can speak like friends and have meaningful conversations about topics that are important to us. It is honestly a dream job for me.

I hope I have inspired you to visit my home region and if you want to know more, please join one off my many lessons. I look forward to seeing you in the future.
