My hometown of Toronto, Canada is a unique place. It’s the largest city in the country and we pride ourselves in being extremely diverse and multicultural. In fact, over 50% of the population are part of a visible minority, which means we have tons of food options for every appetite! In fact, we are often the first city that many international brands and restaurants look to in order to establish their first Canadian outpost.

Apart from being a hub for food tourism, Toronto has plenty of exceptional architecture. Look no further than the Royal Ontario Museum for an amazing amalgamation of architectural styles that are as interesting as the museum’s collection itself. We’re even home to the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere: the CN Tower. The tower has a rotating restaurant so you can dine while viewing the entire city, and a thrilling activity called the EdgeWalk where you can walk around the outside of the tower, 356m above the ground.

You might think, “Toronto is just another city”, but we have tons of natural attractions as well. I recommend that you visit the Toronto Islands. It is only accessible by ferry, and although it’s still an urban area, cars are not allowed on the island so it’s very calm. You can spend the day on the many beaches, visit the amusement park, or rent bikes to best appreciate the island’s natural beauty. Actually, my family has a tradition to visit once a year, and this is one of my favourite memories. I hope you’ll be able to visit one day too!

Since starting at Café Eikaiwa, I’ve been shocked at how fascinating everyone’s lives are—something you don’t realize until you get to know a stranger. It is really enjoyable to meet new people, learn from them, and learn about them. I also appreciate that this job encourages me to expand my thinking when creating discussion topics. Café Eikaiwa is a great platform to teach and learn, so I would be very happy if you could join us!
